Digital cable trainer — DFX Servo Trainer T232

The T232 is a floor-mounted, servo-motor controlled resistance platform. The motor sets the load, not a weight stack, and the machine records every repetition at a sampling frequency of 2000 Hz. Resistance is adjustable from 0.5 to 32 kg per arm in steps of 0.1 kg, velocity runs from 0.1 to 8.0 m/s, and the machine is operated through a 12-inch touchscreen with a multilingual interface.
The six resistance modes
The DFX Servo Trainer T232 runs six software-controlled training modes. You select the mode on the touchscreen; the machine then changes its behaviour, not just its weight setting. Below is when each mode is used.
- Isotonic
- Constant load across the full range, for regular strength work.
- Eccentric
- A higher load on the braking phase than on the pushing phase, for strength and tendon loading you would not reach concentrically.
- Isokinetic
- Fixed velocity, with resistance following the effort at every joint angle rather than being limited by your weakest point.
- End release
- Resistance drops away at the end of the range, for an explosive finish without decelerating.
- Elastic force
- Resistance rising through the range, behaving like a band.
- Fluid resistance
- Velocity-dependent resistance, behaving like water.

Those values are usable because they are captured at a fine grain: the sampling frequency is 2000 Hz and the resistance precision is 0.1 lb. A one-second repetition therefore yields two thousand data points, enough to show how force and velocity develop within a single movement rather than only the end result.
The test mode estimates 1RM without the user having to perform a maximal test, and determines the load at which power output is highest. That figure can be used directly to set the training load for anyone training for power rather than maximal strength.
For each set the machine plots the force curve. That curve can be compared with earlier sessions, so a change in how the movement is produced becomes visible — not only a change in the total. In rehabilitation and in performance work, the shape of that curve is the interesting signal.

Pneumatic cable trainers use air pressure as their resistance source. DFX supplies both principles — the DFX Performance line is pneumatic and runs on an air compressor — so the comparison below is not about right or wrong, but about what a single resistance principle can and cannot do.

The pneumatic column is based on the product page of the Keiser Functional Trainer. Keiser builds solid pneumatic equipment; the difference that matters here is the number of resistance modes and what the machine records about the execution.
What 32 kg means here
Next to a weight stack, 32 kg per arm sounds low. That is because the figure on a weight stack describes something different from the figure on a servo motor. A 32 kg weight stack does not deliver 32 kg within a single explosive repetition, but a widely varying load. At an acceleration of 5 m/s² you pull 48 kg and it decelerates at 16 kg — a factor of three, because the mass first has to be accelerated and then falls away from you. The servo motor holds the set load across the full range.
In eccentric mode the braking phase is loaded at a level corresponding to a concentric capacity of roughly 21 to 27 kg, a load the user would not lift. With free weights that requires a heavier bar and a spotter.
With both arms on one bar the load is 64 kg. For anyone who wants to train heavier than that, the classic strength line remains the right tool; the T232 is intended for training where the shape of the load and the measurement per repetition are the point.
Applications
Sports physiotherapy and rehabilitation
The low starting resistance of 0.5 kg allows early loading. Isokinetic testing gives a picture across the whole joint angle, eccentric loading can be dosed without a spotter, and the per-repetition measurements provide objective return-to-play criteria instead of an estimate.
Elite sport and performance
Rotational strength for baseball, golf and tennis can be trained in the right plane with a cable system and measured at the same time. Peak RFD shows how quickly force is developed, and the test mode gives a 1RM estimate without a maximal test — often the difference between testing and not testing during a season.
Premium clubs and PT studios
Measurable progress works as a retention instrument: a member who sees their force curve from three months ago next to today's has a reason to stay. The 115 instruction videos per muscle group are on the machine itself, which makes guidance scalable.
Part of one measurement environment
The T232 runs on the same app and the same platform as the force plate, the VBT system, the sprint trainer and athlete monitoring. A jump on the force plate, a set on the cable trainer and a sprint therefore end up in the same record, under the same user.
You are not buying a stand-alone machine but an entry point into one measurement environment. Users log in through the app and are recognised at the machine via RFID, so sessions are automatically linked to the right person. Software upgrades are delivered remotely over Wi-Fi, so the machine grows with the platform.
The force plate for jump and isometric testing and the VBT system for velocity-based training with free weights are the logical additions to the same data line.
Data ownership and origin
All training data can be exported to xlsx. That is more than a convenience: it is the proof that the measurements do not have to leave the building and do not get locked into a closed platform. A physiotherapy practice can process the values in its own patient record, a club can analyse the data in its own model, and if it ever switches supplier the historical series come along. The data remains the property of the customer, and it is held in Europe.
The DFX Smart Gym App is the user interface and PAMFA is the underlying data platform. The machine carries the name ELIGA — the technology partner with which DFX produces its digital resistance line. Delivery, installation, service, warranty and the single point of contact all sit with DFX in Huizen, the Netherlands.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference from an ordinary cable station?
A mechanical cable station pulls against a weight stack: the load is a mass you first have to accelerate and which then falls away from you. The DFX Servo Trainer T232 generates its resistance with a servo motor. That makes six different resistance modes possible on one machine and keeps the set load constant across the full range. Every repetition is also measured at 2000 Hz, where a cable station produces no figure at all.
What is eccentric overload?
Eccentric overload means the braking phase of a movement is loaded more heavily than the pushing phase. In eccentric mode the T232 puts a higher load on the returning part of the range than on the active part, so tendons and muscles are loaded at a level you would not reach concentrically. With free weights the same effect requires a heavier bar and a spotter.
Can I export the data?
Yes. All measurements per set and per session can be exported to xlsx. The data can be processed in your own administration, your own patient record or your own analysis model, and does not have to leave the building.
How much space do I need?
